New Cal-Shake

Defective roof shake The New Cal-Shake lawsuit, known as The Shake Roof Cases, J.C.C.P. 4209, Superior Court, County of Contra Costa was litigated for over seven years. New Cal-Shake began manufacturing the shakes on February 1, 1986 and stopped manufacturing the shakes by March 31, 1995.  Cal-Shake, Inc. went out of business in 1995, and was without assets.

The case was settled after jury selection for $90 million. The settlement was funded by various Cal-Shake insurance carriers. The settlement fund continues to be distributed to Cal-Shake class members.

Old Cal-Shake

The Old Cal-Shake lawsuit is known as Shake Roof Cases, J.C.C.P 4208, Superior Court, County of Contra Costa.  Old Cal-Shake manufactured cement and Perlite shakes between January 25, 1980 and January 31, 1986. In June 2005, a jury found that the product was negligently manufactured, which resulted in a settlement after a second phase trial.  The Old Cal-Shake claims filing period concluded on August 1, 2008.
